How does silence detection work?▾
fwip analyses the audio waveform and identifies sections where the volume falls below a threshold (measured in decibels) for longer than the minimum silence duration. Those sections are removed and the remaining audio is joined seamlessly.
Will this cut off quiet parts of speech?▾
On the Normal and Gentle presets, no. The threshold is set low enough to only detect true silence, not quiet speech. If you find it cutting too aggressively, switch to Gentle or raise the threshold slider.
What threshold should I use for podcasts?▾
Normal (−50dB, 0.5s) works well for most podcast recordings. For noisy environments, try Gentle (−40dB, 1.0s). For studio-quality recordings, Aggressive (−60dB, 0.3s) can tighten up the edit.
How much time does this typically save?▾
It depends on the recording. Podcast interviews typically have 10-20% silence. Lectures with pauses can be 15-30% shorter. You'll see the exact time saved in the before/after comparison.
