How does Smart Crop know where the subject is?▾
fwip uses u2netp, a neural network for salient object detection, running directly in your browser. It analyses the image and identifies the most visually prominent object — a person, product, animal, or focal point — then centres the crop on it.
What happens if the AI doesn't detect the right subject?▾
You can drag the crop rectangle to reposition it manually. The AI provides the starting position, but you always have full control. For images with no clear subject, it defaults to centre crop.
Can I crop to different aspect ratios?▾
Yes. Smart Crop includes presets for Square (1:1), Instagram Feed (4:5), Stories/Reels (9:16), YouTube (16:9), Photo (3:2), Pinterest (2:3), and a Free mode that crops tightly around the subject.
How is this different from regular cropping?▾
Regular crop uses the centre of the image. Smart Crop uses AI to find the subject and centres the crop on it. This means off-centre subjects stay in frame instead of being cut off.
Does Smart Crop reduce image quality?▾
No. Smart Crop extracts the crop region at full original resolution. There's no re-encoding or compression — the output is a direct pixel-for-pixel extraction from the original image.
