Your photos never leave your machine.

Most portrait blur tools upload your photos to a server for AI processing. Your personal photos pass through systems you don't control. fwip runs the entire depth estimation neural network in your browser.

fwip works differently. The processing engine runs entirely in your browser. Your image is read from your device, processed on your CPU, and the result is saved back to your device. No server is involved. We literally cannot see your file.

No server processing

Everything runs on your device using WebAssembly. Your file never touches a network.

Frequently asked.

How does AI portrait blur work without uploading my photo?
fwip runs Depth Anything V2, a neural network for depth estimation, directly in your browser using WebAssembly. The model analyses your photo to understand which objects are close and which are far away, then applies blur only to the background.
Is this the same as iPhone portrait mode?
Similar concept but different technology. iPhones use a dedicated depth sensor and neural engine at capture time. fwip estimates depth from a single photo after the fact — meaning you can add portrait blur to any photo from any camera, even years-old photos.
How long does depth estimation take?
Typically 3-8 seconds depending on your device. The depth estimation only runs once — after that, adjusting the blur sliders is instant because it's just recompositing the image.
Can I control how much of the image is blurred?
Yes. The depth threshold slider controls what's considered background vs foreground. The blur intensity slider controls how strong the blur is. You can see changes in real-time before downloading.
Why does the blur look different from iPhone portrait mode?
iPhone uses a physical depth sensor for precise edges. fwip estimates depth from a single 2D photo, which is inherently less precise at fine edges like hair strands. fwip compensates with smooth feathering between foreground and background for a natural look.
