How does AI upscaling work in the browser?▾
fwip runs a Real-ESRGAN neural network directly in your browser using ONNX Runtime and WebAssembly. The AI model (~5 MB) is downloaded once and cached. Your images never leave your device.
What is the difference between Fast and AI Enhanced modes?▾
Fast mode uses bicubic interpolation for instant results. AI Enhanced mode runs a super-resolution neural network that adds genuine detail and sharpness, but takes longer to process.
How much can I upscale an image?▾
You can upscale 2x, 3x, or 4x the original dimensions. AI mode works best at 2x-4x. Very large source images may be limited by your device's available memory.
Is browser-based AI upscaling as good as desktop software?▾
fwip uses the same Real-ESRGAN model family as many desktop tools. Quality is comparable for most photos. The main trade-off is speed — desktop apps with GPU acceleration are faster on large images.
