How does AI table detection work in the browser?▾

fwip uses Microsoft's Table Transformer models (DETR-based) converted to run in your browser via WebAssembly. The detection model finds table locations, the structure model identifies rows and columns, and then text is mapped from the PDF text layer into the detected cells.

How large are the AI models?▾

The two models total roughly 30 MB and are downloaded once on first use. After that they're cached in your browser and work offline.

Can I extract a specific table from a multi-page PDF?▾

Yes. Navigate to the page with the table you want and click Detect Tables. The AI will find and extract tables on the current page. You can also switch to manual mode and draw a selection box around any table area.

Does PDF to CSV work on scanned documents?▾

The AI can detect tables in scanned PDFs visually, but it needs a text layer to extract the actual data. For scanned documents, use our Make PDF Searchable tool first to add an invisible text layer, then extract the table.
